LeBron James made history in the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Toronto Raptors. Breaking records seems to be a common occurrence for the NBA star, as he surpassed Oscar Schmidt as the highest scorer in basketball history on Tuesday (2). The Brazilian player’s 49,737 points were left behind as LeBron scored 23 points in the Lakers’ 128-111 win against the Raptors.

In an interview with GZH last September, Oscar Schmidt revealed that he was rooting for the American to surpass him. Known as “Mão Santa,” Schmidt scored his 49,737 points in 1,615 games, averaging 30.7 points per game.

LeBron recently set the NBA scoring record, becoming the first player to surpass 40,000 points in the world’s premier basketball league. It is important to note that LeBron’s record includes points scored in All-Star Games. Without these, he is still trailing in the count. However, there is controversy surrounding Oscar’s numbers as well, due to the challenges of official statistics during his playing days.
